The Wizards have reportedly agreed to accept Melvin Ely's contract from the Pelicans as part of a three-team deal involving Trevor Ariza and Omer Asik.
The Pelicans have been slowly but surely shedding contracts to clear room for Asik, and unloading Ely and Alonzo Gee (to the Rockets) may be the final piece of their salary-cap puzzle. The Wizards gain a traded-player exception of $8.5 million for their efforts, while Houston gets Ariza, Gee and a protected 2015 first-round pick from the Pelicans.
Pelicans sign C Melvin Ely.
Ely played two season with the Hornets from 2007-09 but he hasn't played in the NBA for two seasons. Even if the Pelicans intend to play him in their final two games, he has zero fantasy appeal.
Big man Melvin Ely has been invited to Grizzlies' camp, according to Hoopshype.
He's on the downside of his career, hasn't played in the NBA since 2011, and it would be surprising to see him make the final roster.
