Allen announced his retirement from professional basketball Tuesday in an essay posted on The Players' Tribune.

Allen is reportedly considering a return to the NBA for the upcoming season, according to ESPN.com's Chris Broussard.

He is not retiring and left open the door to returning in 2015-16, but for the rest of this season, Allen will not be making any impact in the fantasy world.

It sounds like Allen is pulling a Roger Clemens, waiting until halfway through the season to see which teams are ready to make a playoff run and where he would fit the best. That's great for Allen, but it makes him fantasy irrelevant.

Mike Miller has been recruiting Ray Allen to join him and LeBron James in Cleveland. "With LeBron James, you are going to win 55 to 60 games regardless," Miller said. "Now it's about what you do in the playoffs. For us, even with the young talent that they have there, you've got to bring guys that have been there before, even if they are not giving you heavy minutes. Because those are the guys that understand the preparation, the adjustments, things like that can really bring those guys along. And then you build it from there." Allen is contemplating retirement, but the ageless veteran could still contribute to an NBA team with his clutch shot making and picture perfect jumper. Stay tuned.

He has reportedly been in talks with both the Rockets and Cavaliers, but is yet to speak with his former team. "We knew that he wanted to take some time and be patient to see where he is," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We'll see what happens." Whether he chooses to play next season or retire, Allen will go down as the greatest three-point shooter in the history of the NBA.

The Cavaliers are reportedly pursuing free agent Ray Allen. This is a transparent move to lure LeBron James back to Cleveland, as Allen has said that he'd like to continue his career alongside LBJ. It's doubtful Allen will make any decisions before LeBron, but Cleveland has nothing to lose by expressing interest in Allen (and leaking it to the media). If the Cavs fail to land LeBron, they're expected to pursue Trevor Ariza and other free agents with their copious salary-cap space.

Why not? He can still shoot. Allen, who is set to become a free agent on July 1st, will turn 39 later this offseason.
