Los Angeles Clippers Western Pacific
Trade Details
MAGIC MOVES MARBLE, ADDS WILCOX Friday, July 15, 2016
the Orlando Magic acquired shooting guard CJ Wilcox and cash from the Los Angeles Clippers for swingman Devyn Marble, a 2nd-round draft pick in 2020, and a trade exception worth $1.2 million.
What does it give the Orlando Magic?
The Magic has been one of the NBA's busiest organizations this off-season, and bringing in Wilcox is just the latest in that flurry of activity. Wilcox is a talented shooting guard who has taken awhile to develop in the NBA, but his recent strong summer league play likely led to this deal. Expect him to be in the mix for backup minutes at shooting guard for Orlando.
What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers?
Clearly this trade is about finances for the Clips. The team has already waived Marble, and the trade exception allows L.A. to add $1.2 million in salary over the next year without sending it the other way in trades (giving the Clippers financial flexibility for future moves).
Fantasy Impact
Wilcox didn't play much at all for the Clippers this past season, and that may not change much with the Magic. Orlando already has Evan Fornier and Jodie Meeks at shooting guard, so Wilcox is clearly the No. 3 option on the depth chart. The deal has no fantasy impact on the Clippers, since Wilcox rarely played.
