MIAMI MAKES A DEAL FOR PERIMETER SCORER BABBITT Sunday, July 10, 2016
The Miami Heat acquired combo forward Luke Babbitt from the New Orleans Pelicans for a 2018 second-round pick and cash considerations.
What does it give the Miami Heat?
Miami is re-tooling this off-season (if not rebuilding) and Babbitt can help with that. He's a good perimeter scorer who has yet to really find his mojo in the NBA, and the Heat have a strong track record of getting players to play up to potential. Babbitt is also a low-risk depth addition who might prove to be a valuable 3-point shooter for Miami in the coming season.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans?
For the Pelicans this is about freeing up a bit of salary cap space. Babbitt was a solid fill-in player for them but not a core guy. The team's recent drafting of sweet-shooting wing Buddy Hield should more than make up for the loss of Babbitt's perimeter scoring.
Fantasy Impact
Babbitt's fantasy value with the Heat probably stays the same as it was with the Pelicans, which is minimal. He's worth keeping an eye on as an in-season add in case of injuries, however.
