CAVS ADD KAY FELDER Thursday, June 23, 2016
The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired the rights to point guard Kahlil Felder from the Atlanta Hawks for cash considerations.
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers?
'Kay' is a nice pickup for the Cavaliers: he has fantastic all-round playmaking tools and an NBA game that fits well with Cleveland's small-ball, up-tempo approach. All he lacks is height, but that shouldn't stop him from having a long NBA career. He's also fairly NBA-ready, so could challenge for a rotational role on the reigning champs in 2016-17.
What does it give the Atlanta Hawks?
The Hawks probably decided they don't have room for three rookie guards (since they also picked up DeAndre Bembry and Isaia Cordinier at the draft), so they get some cash here for the rights to Felder (and can use that cash to sign the other two rookies).
Fantasy Impact
Felder is a deep sleeper for the upcoming season, if only because Kyrie Irving has some injury proneness. Felder is fairly NBA-ready, so if he somehow gets a chance to start in '16-17, snap him up off the wire and expect solid assists and points totals.
