CLIPS STEAL STONE AND MICHINEAU FOR DIALLO Thursday, June 23, 2016
The New Orleans Pelicans acquired the rights to power forward / center Cheick Diallo from the Los Angeles Clippers for the rights to power forward / center Diamond Stone and point guard David Michineau.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans?
It's hard to like this deal for the Pelicans. Stone has his drawbacks but he alone probably has more star potential than Diallo, with the latter projecting as more of a role player in the NBA. Add in Micheneau and it appears the Clippers got the better of this deal with New Orleans.
What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers?
Stone has the raw potential to eventually be an NBA starter, so this is a steal for the Clippers. Micheneau only sweetens the deal, as he's one of the better point guard prospects coming out of Europe (if also a little bit raw). A few years from now this may be seen as a very savvy move by L.A.
Fantasy Impact
Stone is probably the most NBA-ready of the three prospects in this trade but it's tough to see him cracking the stellar Clippers rotation yet. He is a sleeper keeper, however. Micheneau is more of a long-range prospect, while Diallo projects as a defense-first big man who should contribute a few years down the road.
