SUNS SNAP UP CHRISS FOR THREE PROSPECTS Thursday, June 23, 2016
The Phoenix Suns acquired the rights to power forward Marquese Chriss from the Sacramento Kings for the rights to center Georgios Papagiannis, power forward / center Skal Labissiere and combo guard Bogdan Bogdanovic.
What does it give the Phoenix Suns?
If going by the old trade adage that the team getting the best player wins, then the Suns win this one. Chriss likely has more star potential than any of Papagiannis, Labissiere, and Bogdanovic. He soared up draft boards during the weeks heading up to the pick-fest, but then fell a bit back to earth. He's one of the most athletic big men in this year's class, and along with fellow Suns first rounder Dragan Bender he gives Phoenix a bright future at power forward. His arrival also likely pushes Alex Len back to center down the road.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings?
Many fans and draft observers probably believe Papagiannis was drafted too early (No. 13 overall), but he definitely has some rare tools for a true center. Meanwhile Labissiere was more highly-touted than Chriss heading into the last college season, and Bogdanovic is talented too (as a former first-round pick). So overall, the Kings add a lot of options here; and if both Papagiannis and Labissiere both play up to potential, this can one day be seen as a win.
Fantasy Impact
None of the players in this trade will likely produce much in the coming season, but all four are worth keeping on the fantasy radar for the future (and in keeper leagues especially). Chriss has the most upside of the group, and so is most worthy of the four of stashing in a keeper format.
