In their pursuit of big men LaMarcus Aldridge and David West this summer, the Spurs had to let promising backup point guard Cory Joseph leave via free agency. That led to a depth need at the point, and McCallum can provide it. He'll likely be third string behind vets Tony Parker and Patty Mills, but McCallum has shown flashes of promise and may well be San Antonio's point guard of the future.

Sacto's major roster overhaul continues here. It's a bit puzzling they would move a promising young player such as McCallum for so little in return, but they also traded guard Nik Stauskas this summer (which was at least as surprising). The arrivals of backcourt vets Rajon Rondo and Marco Belinelli explain the purge, but unless the Kings make the playoffs this coming season these are some risky trades.

McCallum's exit from Sacto opens up some minutes for Darren Collison (who may now have to back up newly-arrived veteran star point guard Rajon Rondo). In San Antonio it's unlikely McCallum will see a jump in playing time on such a veteran-laden squad (and he may actually play less than with the Kings, since he's now behind Tony Parker and Patty Mills); but McCallum's long-term fantasy keeper value does get a nice boost (since he may wind up as the Spurs' starter a few years down the road).
