RIDNOUR FLIPPED TO HORNETS FOR BARNES Thursday, June 25, 2015
The Memphis Grizzlies acquired small forward Matt Barnes from the Charlotte Hornets for point guard Luke Ridnour.
What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies?
The Grizz are mostly a veteran-laden, physical, defense-first bunch so Barnes should be a perfect fit. While he's probably past his prime, Barnes provides great intensity and toughness on a nightly basis and should be a key veteran addition for a squad looking to still contend for an NBA title. He's also fairly inexpensive, and if he doesn't pan out his contract comes off the books next summer. A nice depth addition.
What does it give the Charlotte Hornets?
The Hornets have been hustling to shake up last season's disappointing roster, and at age 35 Barnes wasn't a great fit to stick around with a mostly-young club. Of course, he was acquired only recently in the deal that brought Spencer Hawes to Charlotte for Lance Stephenson. Ridnour isn't a great fit for the Hornets either, and was flipped--again--later in the day to Oklahoma City for young, athletic wing player Jeremy Lamb.
Fantasy Impact
Neither Barnes nor Ridnour has much (if any) fantasy value, as both are aging backups at this point of their respective careers.
