KNICKS NAB PICKS & SHVED FROM ROCKETS FOR PRIGIONI Thursday, February 19, 2015
The New York Knicks acquired combo guard Alexey Shved and two future second-round draft picks from the Houston Rockets for combo guard Pablo Prigioni.
What does it give the New York Knicks?
The Knicks are in a major rebuild right now so it makes sense for them to move the aged Prigioni and his modest contract obligation for next season. In return they get Shved and his expriring deal. The versatile Shved has a lot of skill (if not a lot of consistency) so he should be able to help pick up at least some of the offensive slack left by the season-ending injury to Carmelo Anthony. The draft picks will help with the rebuild.
What does it give the Houston Rockets?
Prigioni is no star but he is a savvy veteran playmaker who can run an offense if needed. When the Rockets moved Isaiah Canaan (earlier at the trade deadline) the need for Prigioni arose, and he's probably more playoff-ready than Canaan. Houston takes on a little salary for next season here, but they obviously see it as worthwhile for their postseason hopes.
Fantasy Impact
Despite his improved playoff chances Prigioni still isn't fantasy-worthy, but Shved might be now that he's with the talent-starved and depleted Knicks. Keep an eye on Shved the rest of the way.
