Trade Details
ROCKETS GET VET SCORER TERRY FROM SACTO Wednesday, September 17, 2014
The Houston Rockets acquired combo guard Jason Terry, a protected 2015 second-round pick, and a 2016 second-round pick from the Sacramento Kings for swingman Alonzo Gee, shooting guard Scotty Hopson, and a trade exception.
What does it give the Houston Rockets?
The Rockets love shooting the 3-ball so Terry is a nice fit, and he also brings veteran savvy and locker-room leadership to a team that clearly wants to make some noise in the Western Conference this season. That said, it's tough to say how much the 37-year-old has left in the tank. He averaged just 4.5 points per game last season and his scoring fell dramatically the season before as well. The condition on the 2015 second-round pick is it must be before No. 49 overall. This move also clarifies Houston's overloaded roster a little.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings?
The contracts of Gee and Hopson are unguaranteed, so it won't be surprising if they're soon let go by the Kings. This move is clearly about saving money and adding financial flexibility for Sacto, especially since the trade exception will allow the Kings to add a player over the next year without sending salary the other way in return.
Fantasy Impact
This trade likely has no fantasy implications, since Terry is no longer a big-minute scorer and the duo of Gee and Hopson appears unlikely to stay in Sacramento before the season starts.
