HAYWARD HEADS TO CHARLOTTE Sunday, November 29, 2020
The Charlotte Hornets acquired forward/guard Gordon Hayward, a second-round draft pick in 2023 and a second-round draft pick in 2024 from the Boston Celtics for a protected second-round draft pick in 2022.
What does it give the Charlotte Hornets?
In Hayward, the Hornets land a big prize in this year's off-season. He is a natural shooter and point producer, so he should definitely help a young Hornets team that is expected to hand over the keys to the offense to 2020 first-round pick LaMelo Ball. Expect Hayward to make an impact with an expanded role in Charlotte.
What does it give the Boston Celtics?
For the Celtics, this deal works for them as well. That is because Hayward proved not to be a good fit and would have continued to be a role player for them had he decided not to opt out of his contract with Boston. So, this looks like a win-win situation for all parties involved. The Celts also dealt two picks for one here.
Fantasy Impact
Hayward's stock has dropped in recent years, as injuries and a new role in Boston sapped his value to some degree. He should make a huge comeback from a fantasy perspective in Charlotte, and could wind up a draft-day steal if not taken too early in most fantasy leagues.
