Trade Details
MIAMI ADDS ANDRE IGUODALA Thursday, February 6, 2020
In a three-team trade, the Miami Heat acquired forward/guard Andre Iguodala, forward Jae Crowder and forward/guard Solomon Hill from the Memphis Grizzlies; the Grizzlies acquired forward/guard Justice Winslow and guard/forward Dion Waiters from Miami and center Gorgui Dieng from the Minnesota Timberwolves; and the Timberwolves acquired forward James Johnson from Miami.
What does it give the Miami Heat?
In Iguodala and Crowder, the Heat land two quality veterans with playoff experience. Iguodala has yet to play in the NBA this season as he awaited a trade from Memphis, while Crowder was a solid contributor for the surprising Grizzlies in 2019-20. Hill adds depth (but might be waived at some point). Overall, Miami is hoping Iguodala and Crowder can provide the missing pieces to the puzzle.
What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies?
The Grizzlies got three players with some experience in exchange for three of their own experienced players, so Memphis should be able to continue their playoff push in '19-20. Iguodala did not want to play for them, so the hope here is that Winslow can get healthy (he is dealing with a back issue) and provide a lot of what Iguodala would have given the Grizz. Waiters and Dieng may help as well.
What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves?
In Johnson, the Timberwolves get a more athletic big who can actually play small forward as well. The T'wolves have transformed the roster completely at the deadline, so it remains to be seen how much Johnson will be used.
Fantasy Impact
Crowder could lose a lot of playing time in Miami, so his fantasy value appears to be the one likely to take the biggest hit after this trade. Iguodala should play a key role for Miami down the stretch, but he is not a great fantasy option at this late stage of his NBA career. Dieng, Johnson and Waiters have middling value at this point, while Winslow is a major injury risk. Hill has no value after this trade because he might not remain on the Heat roster.
