PORTLAND LOSES LAYMAN TO MINNESOTA Monday, July 8, 2019
The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired forward/guard Jake Layman from the Portland Trail Blazers for forward Bojan Dubljevic.
What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves?
Layman signed a three-year deal with Minnesota, so they clearly wanted to acquire him this off-season. He can play both small forward and shooting guard, so he figures to see a decent amount of minutes off the Timberwolves' bench in 2019-20. He is also insurance in case Minny deals Andrew Wiggins.
What does it give the Portland Trail Blazers?
The Trail Blazers did not want to match Minnesota's offer for Layman, who fell out of the rotation towards the end of the 2018-19 campaign in Portland. So, they accepted the sign-and-trade deal and acquired Dubljevic, a 27-year-old "stretch 4" forward who is a long shot to play in the NBA.
Fantasy Impact
For now, Layman should be left on the fantasy waiver wire/free agency. However, he could emerge as an in-season bench replacement at some point. Dubljevic is off the radar until/unless he decides to play in the NBA.
