PELICANS DEAL FOR DERRICK FAVORS Sunday, July 7, 2019
The New Orleans Pelicans acquired center/forward Derrick Favors from the Utah Jazz for a second-round draft pick in 2021 and a second-round draft pick in 2023.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans?
In Favors, the Pelicans get a veteran big man who should help the team's depth at both the 4 and the 5 positions. He may start at center or back up both franchise power forward Zion Williamson and center Jahlil Okafor. Favors' experience should help this very young, very talented New Orleans squad.
What does it give the Utah Jazz?
The Jazz decided to ship Favors out mostly to change the team's shape, as new point guard Mike Conley and new sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic should provide a lot more offense. With Rudy Gobert entrenched at center, Utah felt comfortable moving Favors to New Orleans at this time. They will receive two seconds for him.
Fantasy Impact
Favors is moving to a team that is expected to score a lot while playing a fast-paced style. That said, Favors only holds modest fantasy upside.
