SNELL SENT TO THE PISTONS Thursday, June 20, 2019
The Detroit Pistons acquired forward/guard Tony Snell and a first-round draft pick in 2019 (No. 30 overall) from the Milwaukee Bucks for center/forward Jon Leuer.
What does it give the Detroit Pistons?
For the Pistons, veteran Snell could be a solid addition and provide decent wing play (an area of need for Detroit). They will be counting on Snell to give the team some leadership, experience and streaky three-point shooting. Look for Snell to come off the bench in Detroit and play an important role in 2019-20.
What does it give the Milwaukee Bucks?
This move is a clear salary dump by the Bucks, who will have a little easier time re-signing UFA small forward Khris Middleton and restricted free agent guard Malcolm Brogdon with Snell's contract ($11.5 million through 2020-21) coming off the books. Leuer might be waived as well, which would create even more cap space.
Fantasy Impact
Snell should see more playing time in Detroit in 2019-20 than what was the case on the best team during the NBA's regular season in '18-19, so his stock is trending upward. That said, he is still a mediocre fantasy play. Leuer has even less fantasy stock now because he is likely to become a free agent this summer once waived.
