GRIZZ GETS VET TEMPLE FOR DAVIS & MCLEMORE Tuesday, July 17, 2018
The Sacramento Kings acquired guard Ben McLemore, forward/center Deyonta Davis, a second-round draft pick in 2021 and cash from the Memphis Grizzlies for guard/forward Garrett Temple.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings?
Sacramento is still rebuilding with youth, and this is a solid move in continuing that. The Kings know McLemore well (having picked him No. 7 overall in the 2013 NBA Draft) but Davis might be the key to this deal for Sacto. Davis has the raw tools to eventually be a starter at power forward or center for the Kings--if he develops ideally with his new team.
What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies?
Temple is a nice fit for the Grizzlies' veteran core. He's a Swiss Army knife-type who can play anywhere from point guard to small-ball power forward, and he's a selfless leader on and off the court. He can also start games or come off the bench equally well, and his contract expires after the coming campaign.
Fantasy Impact
There probably isn't much fantasy fallout from this swap. McLemore and Davis are probably talented enough to be NBA starters, but it's hard to imagine either of them beating out the current competition on the Kings for a top role anytime soon. Meanwhile Temple's contributions are far more significant in the little things he does as a role player than anything he does in the major stat categories. Even if Temple finds himself starting games for the Grizzlies, don't expect fantasy fireworks.
