BULLS BRING IN VONLEH FROM BLAZERS Thursday, February 8, 2018
The Chicago Bulls acquired forward/center Noah Vonleh and cash from the Portland Trail Blazers for the rights to forward/center Milovan Rakovic.
What does it give the Chicago Bulls?
This is a nice low-risk flier by the Bulls. Vonleh is still very young by NBA standards (just 22) and he has the physical gifts needed to become an above-average starting center or power forward. If he doesn't leave via free agency in the coming off-season, Vonleh has a chance to be a building block for the Bulls. That's a nice return for cash and the NBA rights to an aging player in Europe (Rakovic) who may never join the NBA.
What does it give the Portland Trail Blazers?
Portland drops salary here, which helps them pay less salary luxury tax. Even with Vonleh gone the Blazers still have a deep and crowded group of talented young big men, including Jusuf Nurkic, Zach Collins, and Caleb Swanigan.
Fantasy Impact
For the near future there's little to no fantasy impact as a result of this deal. Vonleh needs to earn regular minutes in Chicago, and he wasn't playing much in Portland.
