CLIPS CUT SALARY BY MOVING LIGGINS TO HAWKS Monday, September 25, 2017
The Atlanta Hawks acquired shooting gaurd / small forward DeAndre Liggins and cash from the Los Angeles Clippers for future draft considerations and a trade exception worth $1.67 million.
What does it give the Atlanta Hawks?
The Hawks have already waived Liggins, who has been traded three times already since late June. Atlanta is a rebuilding team, so it has salary cap room to spare; the Hawks use some of that cap room here to help out the Clippers, and they get cash in return.
What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers?
For the Clippers this move is all about staying under the NBA's salary cap luxury tax line. Dropping Liggins' salary achieves that for L.A., while also clarifying the roster a little heading into training camp. The future draft pick and trade exception are bonuses.
Fantasy Impact
Liggins has already been waived by the Hawks, and even if he'd stayed with the Clippers he wasn't expected to play much of a role with them; so there's no fantasy impact as a result of this deal.
