BUCKS DELIVER HIBBERT TO DENVER FOR PICK Thursday, February 23, 2017
The Denver Nuggets acquired center Roy Hibbert from the Milwaukee Bucks for a protected future 2nd-round draft pick.
What does it give the Denver Nuggets?
The Nuggets recently made a solid trade landing new center Mason Plumlee, a move that might ensure them a playoff berth in the ultra-competitive West. Hibbert should aid that postseason push. He isn't anywhere near as effective as a few seasons ago, but as a backup and veteran presence he can help the team win some games. The price was very low as well--and he's a free agent this summer--so this is an all-round nice rental and depth addition by Denver.
What does it give the Milwaukee Bucks?
Hibbert was traded to the Bucks recently (in the deal with Charlotte moving Miles Plumlee--Mason's brother--to the Hornets) so he didn't last long with Milwaukee. The Bucks have a glut of talented big men without Hibbert (including Greg Monroe, Thon Maker, John Henson, and Spencer Hawes) so getting his expiring $5 million deal off the books makes a lot of sense.
Fantasy Impact
There's little to no fantasy impact as a result of this deal. Hibbert looked unlikely to play much with the Bucks, and he looks unlikely to play big minutes for the Nuggets either (barring an injury to Mason Plumlee or Nikola Jokic). His arrival does probably further erode the fantasy value of Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur, however.
