The Lakers assigned James to the South Bay Lakers of the G League on Thursday, and he is expected to make his debut against Salt Lake City on Saturday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

James totaled two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two assists and one steal in five minutes during Wednesday's 134-110 loss to the Cavaliers.

James is expected to join the Lakers' G League affiliate -- the South Bay Lakers -- after the club's upcoming five-game road trip, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

James scored 17 points (7-17 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding four rebounds, three steals, an assist and a block in 35 minutes during Friday's 132-74 preseason loss to the Warriors.
