DINWIDDIE TO BULLS, BAIRSTOW TO PISTONS IN ONE-FOR-ONE SWAP Friday, June 17, 2016
The Chicago Bulls acquired combo guard Spencer Dinwiddie from the Detroit Pistons for forward / center Cameron Bairstow.
What does it give the Chicago Bulls?
The Bulls are currently at the center of a maelstrom of trade rumors surrounding their starting guards (Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler), and this deal probably only adds fuel to that scuttlebutt. Dinwiddie has above-average talent for an NBA guard, but it remains to be seen what his role will be with the Bulls (since more moves are obviously pending). Bairstow didn't pan out as expected in his two seasons with Chicago, the team has several other young big men ahead of him on the depth chart.
What does it give the Detroit Pistons?
Bairstow has above-average interior scoring ability for a big guy, and Detroit can use that to complement its perimeter-focused offense. With Jodie Meeks returning to health at the end of this past season, the Pistons got a solid veteran back to help starters Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the backcourt. That likely made Dinwiddie expendable.
Fantasy Impact
Dinwiddie's fantasy value gets a decent spike here, and it could skyrocket if the Bulls dump both Butler and Rose and decide to rebuild this summer. As for Bairstow, he remains largely a project with minimal fantasy value until he starts showing the scoring touch he had in college.
