MAVS ADD POST PUNCH IN ZAZA Thursday, July 9, 2015
The Dallas Mavericks acquired center Zaza Pachulia from the Milwaukee Bucks for a future 2nd-round draft pick.
What does it give the Dallas Mavericks?
Pachulia at least somewhat lessens the major blows Dallas has suffered at center in this summer's free agency market. After former starter Tyson Chandler signed with Phoenix and rising star DeAndre Jordan backed out of a deal to join, the Mavs regroup here and bring in the solid Pachulia. Big Zaza is true bruiser in the paint, and while he doesn't put up the numbers of Jordan or Chandler, he has proven himself as a good NBA starter.
What does it give the Milwaukee Bucks?
This deal gives the rising Bucks a chance to promote John Henson to starting center, a move that makes a lot of sense (since he's a core part of their young and exciting squad). Henson is probably ready for the next step, so Milwaukee saves some money here and gets a draft pick in the bargain.
Fantasy Impact
Following this trade Pachulia still isn't very draftable in most fantasy leagues, but he should nonetheless get a minor uptick in projected stats with the move. He won't likely see much challenge from Charlie Villanueva for minutes in the post, so Zaza might surprise with a career campaign. Put him on the deep sleeper radar. For the Bucks, John Henson suddenly becomes a player who should probabaly be targeted in the middle to late rounds of most drafts. He has the talent to put up impressive shot-blocking and rebounding numbers, and appears in line to replace Pachulia as Milwaukee's starting pivot.
