GORTAT GOES TO CLIPS FOR RIVERS Tuesday, June 26, 2018
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired center Marcin Gortat from the Washington Wizards for swingman Austin Rivers.
What does it give the Los Angeles Clippers?
The addition of Gortat here probably says more about what the Clippers probably WON'T be doing this off-season: and that is, re-signing star center DeAndre Jordan. It's hard to imagine the Clips keeping both big men (who are both established veteran starting centers), so it appears L.A. is going to move on from Jordan. Gortat is probably a slight upgrade offensively, but a big downgrade defensively.
What does it give the Washington Wizards?
This is a curious addition by the Wizards, who don't seem to have a pressing need for Rivers. He's a solid vet who can play anywhere from point guard to small forward, but he's also expensive and Washington already has emerging players in Tomas Satoransky and Kelly Oubre filling the backup wing spots.
Fantasy Impact
Gortat's fantasy value isn't likely to change moving from Washington to the Clippers. As for Rivers, his fantasy fortunes probably drop considerably since he looks likely to go from starter status with the Clips to backup with the Wizards. Also expect Clippers guards Patrick Beverley and Milos Teodosic to get slight fantasy boosts with Rivers gone. In Washington there will obviously be a new starting center, but it's impossible to know whom that might be this early in the off-season.
