NETS NET A NICE BARGAIN IN MCDANIELS Thursday, February 23, 2017
The Brooklyn Nets acquired swingman KJ McDaniels from the Houston Rockets for cash.
What does it give the Brooklyn Nets?
The dismal Nets have made some highly questionable moves in recent seasons (and in recent days), but this is a nice little steal for them. McDaniels has starter talent as a super-athletic defense-first wing, and Brooklyn essentially gets him for nothing here. Don't be surprised if he pushes for a starting gig soon with the talent-starved Nets.
What does it give the Houston Rockets?
This deal accomplishes one key objective for Houston: it helps the contending Rockets free up cap space to sign a veteran free agent. One of the fallouts from every season's trade deadline is several quality vets become available via free agency (after getting waived, etcetera) and moving McDaniels' salary gives Houston just enough breathing room under the luxury line to add one such player.
Fantasy Impact
McDaniels is now at least radar-worthy in deeper fantasy formats (since he has a much better chance at playing time with the Nets than he did with the Rockets). Put him on your watch list. His removal from Houston's roster doesn't have any fantasy impact on the remaining Rockets.
