CARLOS HYDE HEADS TO HOUSTON Saturday, August 31, 2019
The Houston Texans acquired running back Carlos Hyde from the Kansas City Chiefs for offensive guard/tackle Martinas Rankin.
What does it give the Houston Texans?
After the Texans lost starting running back Lamar Miller for the season due to a torn ACL during preseason action, the club was clearly in the market for help at the position. Enter Hyde, who should be able to play early downs and provide a decent option on the goal line. Duke Johnson remains the likely starter at running back with Miller done for 2019, although Hyde might challenge Johnson for the starting nod.
What does it give the Kansas City Chiefs?
For the Chiefs, they were able to get something in return for Hyde (who fell down the running back depth chart over the course of training camp this year), which is already a small victory. Rankin might stick as a backup and provide depth at both guard and tackle along the O-line. If not, the Chiefs were still able to find a take for Hyde, a former starter who did not seem like a solid fit in Kansas City.
Fantasy Impact
Hyde should now be back on the fantasy radar, although he should be viewed more as a Duke Johnson handcuff than a fantasy sleeper at this point. Houston likes to throw the football, so Hyde's rushes could be limited.
