BRONCOS MOVE UP FIVE SPOTS TO TAKE RAY Thursday, April 30, 2015
The Denver Broncos acquired a first-round draft pick in 2015 (No. 23 overall) from the Detroit Lions for center/guard Manny Ramirez, a first-round draft pick in 2015 (No. 28 overall), a fifth-round draft pick in 2015 (No. 143 overall) and a fifth-round draft pick in 2016.
What does it give the Denver Broncos?
The Broncos decided to move up five spots in Round 1 in order to select Missouri edge rusher Shane Ray, who might be in line to eventually replace DeMarcus Ware at right outside linebacker. For now, he'll probably be used as a situational pass-rusher. Denver obviously loved this player because they dealt four assets for him.
What does it give the Detroit Lions?
For Detroit, they received excellent value in exchange for moving down five spots in Round 1. With their first rounder, they selected quality offensive guard Laken Tomlinson, who is expected to start immediately at left guard. Ramirez was also added for more depth on the interior offensive line, plus two later picks.
Fantasy Impact
This deal won't impact the fantasy football world much, except for the fact Detroit has improved its offensive line (which should help QB Matthew Stafford) and Ray is a name to remember for down the road. Ware's fantasy stock also takes a bit of a hit here.
