ALEX LEWIS LANDS WITH THE JETS Monday, August 5, 2019
The New York Jets acquired guard/center Alex Lewis from the Baltimore Ravens for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the New York Jets?
The Jets, under new GM Joe Douglas, have been busy improving the offensive line during training camp. Days after coaxing veteran Ryan Kalil out of retirement, New York now makes a move for Lewis (a versatile interior offensive lineman who could push right guard Brian Winters for the starting gig in 2019).
What does it give the Baltimore Ravens?
The Ravens were set to release veteran Lewis, who lost the left guard job to the younger Jermaine Eluemunor, but managed to get an asset in return for Lewis at the 11th hour. Reports suggest Baltimore will not receive the draft pick (a seventh-rounder in '20) if Lewis does not make the Jets out of training camp.
Fantasy Impact
There is no fantasy impact here, obviously, although Jets QB Sam Darnold and RB Le'Veon Bell could both benefit from an improved offensive line in New York this year. Lewis could help in that area.
