Washington Commanders NFC East
Trade Details
REDSKINS REEL IN SAFETY CLINTON-DIX Tuesday, October 30, 2018
The Washington Redskins acquired safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix from the Green Bay Packers for a fourth-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Washington Commanders?
The 'Skins needed help at safety, where D.J. Swearinger has played well but has felt like a man on an island on many occasions. Expect Clinton-Dix to step into the starting lineup immediately in place of the struggling Montae Nicholson. Clinton-Dix is a massive upgrade for a Washington team that looks primed to challenge Philadelphia for the NFC East division crown in 2018.
What does it give the Green Bay Packers?
The Packers made two deals on deadline day, sending RB Ty Montgomery to Baltimore and now Clinton-Dix to Washington for a couple of draft picks in total. It is a bit surprising to see Green Bay sell assets before the deadline, but in this case they took the deal they could get for Clinton-Dix because the team had no intention of re-signing him in the off-season. Still, it's a curious decision by the Pack.
Fantasy Impact
Clinton-Dix has a lot of fantasy value in IDP football leagues, and this trade should not change that. The trade also helps Jermaine Whitehead, who is expected to replace Clinton-Dix as Green Bay's starting free safety. Conversely, whatever fantasy value Nicholson had before this trade is now gone.
