REDSKINS REEL IN QUARTERBACK HOGAN Friday, April 6, 2018
The Washington Redskins acquired quarterback Kevin Hogan and a sixth-round draft pick in 2018 from the Cleveland Browns for a sixth-round draft pick in 2018.
What does it give the Washington Commanders?
For the Redskins, this is a depth move. Hogan has good scrambling ability, so he could become a decent backup quarterback in the NFL with some refinement to his game. Washington moved down 17 spots in the sixth round in order to take a flier on Hogan, who will compete with veteran Colt McCoy and journeyman Stephen Morris for the No. 2 QB job behind newcomer Alex Smith.
What does it give the Cleveland Browns?
With Hogan now dealt, the Browns have traded away all three of their 2017 quarterbacks (DeShone Kizer went to Green Bay, while Cody Kessler was moved to Jacksonville). That is not surprising, given the fact Cleveland went 0-16 last season. Cleveland is clearing the shelves in anticipation of acquiring a young quarterback early in the 2018 NFL Draft (likely with the first overall pick).
Fantasy Impact
Hogan has deep, dark horse fantasy appeal because of his running ability. If he wins the No. 2 job behind Smith in training camp, Hogan becomes a decent handcuff for all Smith owners in fantasy football. Still, Hogan is a long shot.
