WASHINGTON DEALS SAFETY CRAVENS TO DENVER Wednesday, March 28, 2018
The Denver Broncos acquired safety Su'a Cravens, a 4th-round draft pick in 2018, and a 5th-round draft pick in 2018 from the Washington Redskins for a 4th-round draft pick in 2018, two 5th-round draft picks in 2018, and a conditional 6th-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Denver Broncos?
Cravens is one of the more talented young safeties in the NFL, and his contract is highly affordable. That said, this deal is not without risks for Denver. Cravens has been both injury-prone and rumored to be considering retirement, so the Broncos are obviously hoping he can stay healthy and focused moving forward. The draft picks given up aren't major assets, so this is a very reasonable risk by Denver.
What does it give the Washington Commanders?
After Cravens looked like a possible star for Washington a couple years ago, the team is moving on from him after his much-publicized injuries, absences, and retirement rumours. The draft pick upgrades and additions aren't significant, but they're a solid return considering Washington seemed to have decided it was time to part ways with their talented safety.
Fantasy Impact
Cravens has the talent to be a factor in fantasy leagues featuring Individual Defensive Players, but he's probably not draftable this year (since there are a lot of question marks following his long absence). Do keep him on the waiver wire radar, however.
