The Steelers had been searching for more help at tight end since releasing Ladarius Green (who was battling concussion issues) in May. Enter McDonald, who should eventually compete with Jesse James for the starting tight end job.

The 49ers did not get much in return for their starting tight end, since their fifth rounder may not be that much later than Pittsburgh's fourth rounder in next year's draft. That said, this deal should give rookie George Kittle more playing time.

McDonald's fantasy stock could skyrocket if he is able to pick up the Steelers' offense quickly and beat out James for the starting job. Otherwise, he might end up buried on Pittsburgh's depth chart. His fantasy value is more appealing as a Steeler, though, and worthy of a late-round flier. As for Kittle, his value is also on the rise. In fact, he might be an even better fantasy bet than McDonald (since San Francisco may rely more heavily on the tight end in the passing game than the Steelers do).
