Danario Alexander likely leaving San Diego
Union-Tribune San Diego
News
The Chargers aren't expected to re-sign free agent Danario Alexander.
Forecaster Impact
Beat writer Michael Gehlken puts the chances Alexander re-ups with the Bolts at "very low." DX has had seven knee surgeries -- five on his left, two on his right -- and may never play again. Alexander's talent is undeniable when he's healthy, but unfortunately he's been unable to stay on the field. He might get a one-year deal.

Danario Alexander has additional ACL surgery
Union-Tribune San Diego
News
Free agent Danario Alexander underwent a second surgery on his torn right ACL in January.
Forecaster Impact
Alexander tore the ACL on August 6 and had surgery on August 15. Per the Union-Tribune San Diego, Alexander's latest procedure was a "revision ACL surgery" performed as a "followup," and may make him "unavailable" for the start of 2014 training camp. Sources say "DX" still hopes to play next season, though he's considered "unlikely" to be re-signed by the Chargers. Alexander has now undergone two right knee surgeries and a whopping five operations on his left knee stemming from recurring college injuries. His career is in obvious doubt.

Chargers waived/injured Danario Alexander
Rotoworld.com
News
Chargers waived/injured WR Danario Alexander.
Forecaster Impact
Alexander tore his right ACL on August 6 and had reconstructive surgery on August 15. The quickness with which the procedure was performed suggests DX's ACL tear was clean and affected no other ligaments. It will be interesting to see whether any team takes a flier on him via the waiver process. To do so, they'd have to pay Alexander's full $1.323 million salary for a lost year. Alexander is a free agent in 2014, so we suspect he won't be claimed.

Danario Alexander undergoes surgery
Union-Tribune San Diego
News
Danario Alexander (torn right ACL) underwent successful surgery Thursday.
Forecaster Impact
The Union-Tribune San Diego expects DX to be waived/injured in the near future. That means he'll have to pass through waivers before landing on injured reserve. Alexander's $1.23 million salary and daunting injury history should ensure he goes unclaimed.

Danario Alexander tweaks knee in practice

News
Danario Alexander tweaked his right knee in Tuesday's practice.
Forecaster Impact
We typically avoid posting about training camp injuries before it's clear they're a concern, but any knee ailment is a concern for the famously-brittle DX. It's Alexander's left knee that's given him the most trouble - aka, five surgeries - but it's still not a positive development. It's quite possible today's news won't amount to anything, but it serves as a timely reminder of Alexander's inability to stay healthy.

Danario Alexander hoping to play full season
Union-Tribune San Diego
News
Chargers WR Danario Alexander is hoping to play all 16 games this season.
Forecaster Impact
Alexander has a long history of knee injures and has yet to put together a full season, but is expected to be the Chargers' No. 1 receiver when healthy. "Prehabbing so I'm not rehabbing," Alexander said. "I'm just trying to take advantage of every rep, play this game until the wheels fall off. I'm not going to make any predictions, but I'm feeling confident."

Chargers want Rivers to get ball out quick
NFL.com
News
New coach Mike McCoy reiterated that the Chargers are going to scale back Philip Rivers' aggression this season.
Forecaster Impact
Rivers has proven he's no longer capable of executing the vertical scheme Norv Turner left behind. "We got to get him going back to the basics," McCoy said Monday. "Take what the defense gives you. Don't be afraid to check it down. You don't have to make that big play every play." The Chargers want the ball out of Rivers' hand quickly, thus hiding their woeful offensive line and raising his completion percentage. It's not an ideal scheme for a guy like Danario Alexander, who excels at making big plays down the field.
