Was the prototype for a star NFL tight end: huge and physical but also very sure-handed. Blocked like an O-lineman, with exceptional agility and quickness. Could stretch defenses and it usually took several tacklers to bring him down once he had the ball (with some simply bouncing off of him). Made clutch catches. Also had an energetic, positive and infectious personality. Injuries were a constant issue throughout both his brilliant first stint in the NFL as well as his brief second go-around. Was a bit stiff at times and took a lot of contact, which hurt his durability. Also, he was not particularly fluid in space and his overall speed was only average (in his prime). | |
Long Range Potential: | Arguably the greatest tight end of all time (when healthy). |
