Had a knack for getting into the backfield, thanks to great size, power, speed and quickness. An instinctive reactor and deep penetrator, he could manhandle blockers with superior leverage and superb hand technique. Was not a pure tackler in space and could lose his man at times. He was constantly up against double coverage but learned to deal with it over the years. He was one of the great interior defensive linemen of his era.
