Scouting Report
Could really zip the ball in short range and was a great fit in general for the "West Coast Offense." A good athlete with good height, he also ran fairly well. Worked hard and was a smart player who put in his time in the film room. Battled significant adversity over the course of his lengthy career, including a serious leg fracture that could have cost him his life (or his limb). His comeback was incredibly inspirational and an awesome achievement for an otherwise average signal-caller. Never had an elite arm and had relatively small hands. Made decisions late at times and misread the coverage on occasion. Also, he was never able to live up to the hype of being a No. 1 overall selection in the NFL Draft (especially because he was too often compared to the legendary Aaron Rodgers, who was selected 23 picks later).
Long Range Potential: Solid, inspirational quarterback and leader (when healthy).
