A seasoned, rough-and-ready run stopper, he helped anchor the middle and made splash plays in the box. His thick, heavily muscled frame was a match for blockers and the biggest ball carriers; he knew his own strength and played straight downhill. Also, he was adept at calling defensive signals. Was exceptionally durable and rarely missed a game. Peaked early as a pass rusher and receded to an early-down role to minimize his exposure to quicker inside receivers.
