Pittsburgh Steelers AFC North
Trade Details
SCOBEE SCOOPED UP BY STEELERS Monday, August 31, 2015
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired kicker Josh Scobee from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 6th-round draft pick in 2016.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers?
With both of their kickers (Shaun Suisham and Garrett Hartley) now on Injured Reserve, the Steelers are desperate for a veteran field goal guy. Scobee can be that guy, as he brings a career accuracy rate of 80.8 percent. He suffered through a tough 2014 (which probably led to him getting replaced by rookie Jason Myers), but Pittsburgh is obviously hoping Scobee can get the mojo back that made him one of the NFL's top kickers for several years.
What does it give the Jacksonville Jaguars?
As mentioned, the Jags have rookie Jason Myers taking over the field goal duties, so Scobee became expendable. A sixth-rounder at the '16 Draft probably won't bring a player as talented or as useful as Scobee, but Jacksonville obviously decided it was time to move on with a new kicker.
Fantasy Impact
Scobee makes for a nice fantasy sleeper this season, since the Steelers will likely score a lot of points. That said, Scobee's 2014 struggles may carry over so it might be advisable to have a backup plan in fantasy. Myers as well gets added value with this trade, but isn't draftable yet (since both he and the Jags offense are still far from proven).
