PANTHERS PICK UP WIDEOUT NORWOOD FROM SEAHAWKS Monday, August 31, 2015
The Carolina Panthers acquired wide receiver Kevin Norwood from the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional draft pick in 2017.
What does it give the Carolina Panthers?
The Panthers are somewhat scrambling for wideout options since top target Kelvin Benjamin was lost for the season to a knee injury. Norwood hasn't done much in the NFL but Carolina clearly likes him, and he comes from a great college program (Alabama). He can be a solid possession target if he sticks with his new squad, and might provide surprising depth to a shaky and unproven wideout group.
What does it give the Seattle Seahawks?
The Seahawks are mostly a run-first outfit and have several others ahead of Norwood on the depth chart at wide receiver. That said, it's a bit surprising the Seahawks are giving up on him, since they used a fourth-round draft pick in 2014 to acquire Norwood (No. 123 overall). Clearly Seattle is looking to free up roster space heading up to final cuts.
Fantasy Impact
Norwood gets a small boost in deep sleeper appeal if he makes the Carolina roster, but he should not be drafted or added in fantasy leagues until it's more clear what his role is. His departure from Seattle looks unlikely to affect any of the remaining Seahawks receivers' fantasy values, and the same goes for his new teammates in Carolina.
