The Bucs were in the bottom half of the NFL last season in sacks (with 36.0), so Johnson should provide needed help for the pass rush. Prior to this deal Tampa Bay actually made him an offer sheet (as Johnson was a restricted free agent), so this trade is simply the two teams finding a solution to Johnson's situation. The late-blooming Johnson is just entering his prime as a player, and after six sacks last season as a backup, he should get a chance to start.

The Lions were at risk of losing Johnson for nothing after he got his offer sheet from Tampa Bay, so they do well here to get something for him and move up in the draft. Detroit doesn't have much cap space to work with and its D-line is already looking very different from last season, so they move on and prepare for 2015.

If Johnson starts regularly for his new team (the Bucs), he has a chance to post impressive sack totals. That should make him a nice sleeper in fantasy leagues featuring Individual Defensive Players. Expect him to take the place of Michael Johnson, who's now with the Cincinnati Bengals.
