JETS ACQUIRE WR MARSHALL FROM CHICAGO Friday, March 6, 2015
The New York Jets acquired wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears for a fifth-round draft pick in 2015.
What does it give the New York Jets?
This trade should help the Jets greatly, as Marshall will slide into the No. 1 receiver role and allow new teammate Decker to be more comfortable as a complementary wideout. That veteran combination at wide receiver should produce good results for a Jets squad searching for a new identity (and also seeking some consistency on offense).
What does it give the Chicago Bears?
For the Bears, this looks like another big step towards a total organizational 'refresh'. Marshall was a bit disappointing in Chicago, and he's always a bit moody to begin with, so the Bears decided to cut bait here. They didn't get a lot in return but the fifth rounder should at least make the Bears out of training camp next year. Is Cutler the next big-name Bear to go?
Fantasy Impact
Marshall's fantasy stock takes a big hit here, since he and Cutler were usually on the same page. Plus, Cutler is simply far more talented at this point than whoever will start for the Jets in 2015: Smith potential first-round draft pick Mariota or a veteran free agent. A possible big winner after this trade is Bears wideout Wilson the new projected starter opposite Jeffery
