TEXANS BRING IN BRANDIN COOKS Friday, April 10, 2020
The Houston Texans acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks and a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 from the Los Angeles Rams for a second-round draft pick in 2020 (No. 57 overall).
What does it give the Houston Texans?
The Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona earlier this off-season, so they were in the market for another top-shelf wide receiver. Enter Cooks, who now joins his fourth NFL squad (after stops in New Orleans, New England and LA). He is coming off a down 2019 but could be due for a comeback campaign in Houston, where quarterback Deshaun Watson remains one of the best in the league.
What does it give the Los Angeles Rams?
The Rams are methodically stripping down from the team that made a Super Bowl appearance just last year. Cooks is the latest casualty. The team decided to eat a ton of money here but get back a late second-round pick in this year's draft (which is primordial for LA right now). Without Cooks, Josh Reynolds is expected to see a lot more snaps as a field-stretching option.
Fantasy Impact
Both Cooks and Reynolds are big winners after this deal: Cooks because of the QB upgrade moving from Jared Goff to Watson, and Reynolds because of the major opportunity he now has to cement a role as the Rams' No. 3 wide receiver behind Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. All of the aforementioned receivers are worthy draft choices in most leagues for 2020.
