BOUYE BROUGHT IN BY DENVER Wednesday, March 18, 2020
The Denver Broncos acquired cornerback A.J. Bouye from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a fourth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Denver Broncos?
Losing Chris Harris to free agency probably forced the Broncos into acquiring another quality corner from outside the organization. Bouye is physical and solid, though somewhat mercurial at times. He should hold down one corner position in Denver and provide similar production to what the team was used to from Harris. The cost to acquire Bouye was also rather reasonable.
What does it give the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The Jaguars once boasted arguably the best cornerback tandem in the entire NFL (with Jalen Ramsey on one side and Bouye on the other). That feels like a long time ago now, as Ramsey has moved on to the LA Rams and Bouye is now headed to Denver. The Jags did not receive a lot in return but they may be able to draft a starter with the fourth-round pick acquired here. Jacksonville's secondary needs help.
Fantasy Impact
Bouye accumulated six interceptions in 2017 but has only two in two seasons since. In most IDP leagues, safeties are generally more valuable than cornerbacks in leagues where defensive backs are all grouped together. Therefore, Bouye is only worthy of draft selection in those deep leagues that use the cornerback position.
