New York Giants NFC East
Trade Details
LEONARD WILLIAMS IS NOW A GIANT Tuesday, October 29, 2019
The New York Giants acquired defensive lineman Leonard Williams from the New York Jets for a third-round draft pick in 2020 and a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the New York Giants?
This is a fairly strange trade between two New York city rivals. Williams moves to a Giants team that is already stacked along the defensive line. The Giants will only be on the hook for $2 million of Williams' $6 million salary for 2019, and then he can become a free agent. Consider this a trial run for Williams with the Giants for the rest of the 2019 campaign.
What does it give the New York Jets?
The Jets are even worse than the Giants this season, so this deal is clearly a move designed to shed salary and get something in return for a potential free agent. The Jets receive a third-rounder in '20 and also a fifth-rounder in '21 that can become a fourth-rounder if Williams signs an extension with the Giants before the start of the new league year.
Fantasy Impact
Williams underachieved during his four seasons and a half with the Jets but he will get a new lease on life as a Giant. Expect Williams to play a lot better in his new digs, but he still remains a major long shot as a fantasy option in IDP leagues.
