EMMANUEL SANDERS TO SAN FRANCISCO Tuesday, October 22, 2019
The San Francisco 49ers acquired wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and a fifth-round draft pick in 2020 from the Denver Broncos for a third-round draft pick in 2020 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the San Francisco 49ers?
The unbeaten Niners have been a great story so far in 2019 but the offense remains somewhat questionable. They can run the ball with the best of the NFL but the passing game is still suspect. To that end, San Francisco did well here to land veteran pass catcher Sanders. A quality receiver who can line up both in the slot and outside, Sanders should instantly become the 49ers' top wide receiver. This move also gives the rest of the roster a clear message from management: they are in it to win it.
What does it give the Denver Broncos?
Denver has been a disaster on offense this season, Vic Fangio's first as head coach. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has been part of the problem, so things figure to only get worse now that Flacco's safety net in the slot (Sanders) has been dealt. Denver still boasts a pair of promising wide receivers in Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton (both in their second year), but the team's receiver depth has now taken a major toll. This move suggests that the Broncos are already thinking of 2020 and beyond.
Fantasy Impact
Sanders moves to a much better team in San Francisco, but his fantasy upside remains limited. That is because both the 49ers and the Broncos love to run the football and boast a group of quality running backs. Consider Sanders only a slight fantasy improvement in terms of his overall stock. This trade does help Hamilton's fantasy stock considerably, as well as that of Broncos rookie tight end Noah Fant.
