JAGUARS JETTISON JALEN RAMSEY TO THE RAMS Tuesday, October 15, 2019
The Los Angeles Rams acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a first-round draft pick in 2020, a first-round draft pick in 2021 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the Los Angeles Rams?
Well now it all makes sense! Having earlier lost CB Aqib Talib for the rest of 2019 due to injury, and then traded CB Marcus Peters to Baltimore, the Rams were simply preparing for a bigger move to come. Adding Ramsey gives LA the shutdown corner they THOUGHT they had in Peters and Talib (but both struggled to some extent this season). Ramsey's acquisition is a sign to the rest of the Rams that the team is still very serious about returning to the Super Bowl.
What does it give the Jacksonville Jaguars?
The Jaguars knew that Ramsey no longer wanted to play for them, but they held onto him for as long as possible in order to get back the draft package (2 first-rounders) that they desired all along. This should be viewed as a job well done by Jags GM David Caldwell and co. That said, losing Ramsey hurts the team's secondary significantly. Jacksonville will try to get by with Tre Herndon starting opposite A.J. Bouye, with D.J. Hayden in the slot.
Fantasy Impact
Ramsey, like most elite cornerbacks, rarely see the ball thrown their way during the course of a football game. Therefore, his fantasy value is still fairly limited in IDP leagues.
