VEDVIK TO THE VIKINGS Sunday, August 11, 2019
The Minnesota Vikings acquired kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik from the Baltimore Ravens for a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Minnesota Vikings?
The Vikings have issues in their kicking game, so the hope here is that Vedvik can provide some relief (either as a place-kicker or punter). The incumbents in Minnesota are Dan Bailey and Matt Wile, but neither player is safe with Vedvik now in tow. The fact Minny surrendered a fifth-rounder in '20 for Vedvik means they expect the latter to make the team out of training camp.
What does it give the Baltimore Ravens?
The Ravens had been trying to trade Vedvik for some time now, as they remain set at both kicker and punter with veterans Justin Tucker and Sam Koch, respectively. Therefore, Baltimore did well to receive a fifth-round draft pick in exchange for their backup kicker/punter. Now, the Ravens just hope their incumbents can stay healthy throughout the regular season.
Fantasy Impact
Vedvik could have a lot of sleeper appeal if he beats out Bailey for the Vikings' place-kicker job (which is the expectation at this point). If he merely punts for Minnesota, he will lose all fantasy value.
