Arizona Cardinals NFC West
Trade Details
JOSH ROSEN JOINS MIAMI Friday, April 26, 2019
The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Josh Rosen from the Arizona Cardinals for a second-round draft pick (No. 62 overall) in 2019 and a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Miami Dolphins?
The Dolphins were patient here, and waited until other quarterback-needy teams drafted other signal-callers before trading for Rosen (who could be considered the team's new franchise QB). Miami is clearly rebuilding here, so Rosen might fit in nicely. Arizona's former projected starter will now compete with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job in 2019. This is a solid move by Miami that did not cost too much. Low risk, potentially high reward.
What does it give the Arizona Cardinals?
The Cardinals decided to go all in on Kyler Murray, the very first pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. So, Rosen had to go. In return, the Cardinals drafted super-quick slot receiver Andy Isabella with the pick acquired from Miami in this deal. Arizona moved on quickly from their former franchise QB and avoided any potential turbulence between the two signal-callers in camp. The Cards also received a fifth rounder in '20 from Miami to complete the deal.
Fantasy Impact
In keeper leagues, Rosen has some added value (although there continues to be a lot of talk that Miami will select a top quarterback prospect in next year's draft as well). For 2019, Rosen and Fitzpatrick appear to be on the verge of a QB battle in training camp. As for Isabella, he may be limited to big-play, gadget duty as an NFL rookie. He does offer a lot of upside, though, due to both his own speed and Murray's upside as a playmaker.
