DOLPHINS DEAL QUINN TO DALLAS Thursday, March 28, 2019
The Dallas Cowboys acquired defensive end Robert Quinn from the Miami Dolphins for a sixth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Dallas Cowboys?
Veteran Quinn, who turns 29 in May, produced 6.5 sacks for the Dolphins last season (his only campaign with Miami after seven years with the Rams). He will provide depth for the Cowboys' pass-rush, likely spelling both Demarcus Lawrence and Taco Charlton as a situational player. Furthermore, Quinn provides Dallas with some insurance in case the club cannot come to contractual terms with Lawrence, their current franchise-tagged player.
What does it give the Miami Dolphins?
The Dolphins are rebuilding their entire operation this year, from top to bottom. So, it is no surprise that they moved one of their veteran defenders at this time. Miami did not receive much as compensation, but they no longer have to worry about paying Quinn his 2019 salary ($11.811 million). Look for Miami to target defensive ends in the '19 NFL draft, which takes place next month. Quinn was somewhat of an underachiever for the Fish last season.
Fantasy Impact
Quinn can still provide sacks for fantasy leaguers involved in IDP (individual defensive player) leagues, but he may only be used situationally going forward. So, he is probably no longer worth drafting, even in very deep IDP leagues.
