DeSEAN JACKSON JETTISONED BACK TO PHILLY Wednesday, March 13, 2019
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired wide receiver DeSean Jackson and a seventh-round draft pick in 2020 from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a sixth-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles?
Jackson returns to his original team, where he spent his first six NFL campaigns. Now 32, he is still one of the fastest players on the field. That is precisely why Philadelphia brought him back, as he should be a nice complement to physical wideout Alshon Jeffrey and pass-catching tight end Zach Ertz. Furthermore, the Eagles did not spend much in order to bring Jackson back. This is a win-win situation.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
The Buccaneers were always going to move on from Jackson this off-season. The writing was on the wall. For that reason, they were not able to establish a solid trade market for the veteran speedster. So, they ended up trading Jackson to the team he wanted to go back to and only received back a sixth rounder in this year's draft (while also forking over a last-round pick in next year's draft!). This was not a great move here.
Fantasy Impact
Jackson still holds pretty decent fantasy value, which has likely just spiked up now that he heads back to Philly. QB Carson Wentz has the arm strength to make Jackson a significant deep threat again, so fantasy leaguers should move Jackson up on their mental draft boards heading into 2019. This move helps Wentz, too.
